After completing your coursework, this degree can take you in a variety of directions, all paying a variety of salaries. As a police officer, you could earn a mean annual wage of $55,000, nationally, while correctional or detention officers earn a mean annual wage of about $43,000. You may choose to work for a private security firm (hello, celebrity clients!), don a trench coat, Dick Tracy style,as a private investigator, or work at the Federal level for the Department of Homeland Security.
