The Online Massage Therapy School Directory

Directory of Online Massage Therapy Schools & Degrees

The healing powers of massage can be beneficial to any number of ailments and injuries. Giving a massage can be just as rewarding as receiving one, especially when you're a licensed massage therapist. A career in massage therapy combines a passion for alternative medicine with an expertise in human anatomy. Bonus: You might become incredibly popular with your friends.

Massage therapy is about much more than just giving someone a rubdown. Yes, many people head to luxury spas for a stress-melting massage session, but massage therapy is also used to treat sports injuries, chronic pain, stress, anxiety, and a host of other physical and mental ailments. To be an effective massage therapist, you need to embody a combination of physical strength and powerful communication skills. An online education can help you hone both of these skill sets. Online studies may include coursework in massage technique, physiology, anatomy, business, marketing, and branding. Once you complete an online degree, you may need to pass either a state-mandated licensing exam.

Once you complete your coursework at an online school, you may want to open your own practice, or go to work for an existing practice at a spa, chiropractic office, hotel, or nursing home. The May 2009 Bureau of Labor Statistics shows that nearly 56,000 were employed as massage therapists, and they earned a mean annual wage of about $40,000. Your salary may fluctuate depending on the type of practice you work for.
