Industries with the highest concentration of interior design graduates include: specialized design services, with over 38 percent of interior designers employed nationwide, architectural, engineering and related services, furniture stores, building material and supplies dealers as well as residential building construction.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the national mean annual wage for interior designers was $51,990 in May, 2009. Additionally, top-paid designers received compensation in excess of $83,620 per year. Studies indicate that 3 out of 10 interior designers are self-employed.
