The USA School Directory

Directory of USA Schools & Programs

Post-secondary education is on the rise across college campuses in the USA. From 1997 through 2010, total enrollment for U.S. college students increased 40 percent to more than 20 million students, the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) says. Nearly 15 million students pursued their education at public schools, while more than 5 million students attended private schools in the USA.

Foreign students attending U.S. schools

Many foreign students choose to pursue degrees at colleges in the USA. The NCES states that during the 2008-2009 academic school year, there were nearly 680,000 foreign students completing their studies at American colleges. India accounted for more than 15 percent of foreign students, while Asian countries accounted for nearly two-thirds of all foreign enrollment.

Benefits of pursuing college degrees in the USA

One of the main benefits of attending U.S. schools is the wide range of degree options available for students. Some of the more popular degree paths include business, law, management, engineering, education, health and fine arts, but there are literally hundreds of degree paths from which to choose.

The most popular bachelor degree paths for the 2008-2009 school year include:

1. Business management (347,985 degrees awarded)
2. Humanities (280,456)
3. Social science and history (168,500)

For master's degrees, education led the way, followed by business management.

The USA is also home to some of the world's most respected schools in medicine, law and technology. According to U.S. News and World Report's 2010 ranking of the top 400 colleges, 13 of the best colleges in the world are in the United States.
