Directory of Health Services Schools & Programs
Health services schools, also called Allied Health schools, prepare students for a wide range of careers in the medical industry, from medical billing and coding or managing a physician's office to drawing blood or working as a dental hygienist. Students who complete degrees or certificate programs at health services schools can land any number of well-paying, respectable medical and related careers, and many jobs have room for advancement with additional schooling.
Health services studies
Many of the jobs in the healthcare industry require years of study beyond graduate school, but the bulk of the professions in health services require less than four years of college, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). Health services schools provide much of the training necessary for entry into many specialized fields. Students who pursue health services degrees typically graduate with associate or bachelor's degrees, but many schools offer master's degrees as well for students wishing to further their education. Schools typically are accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools.
Health services occupations
There are dozens of jobs in health services that pay well. Surgical technologists took home median wages approaching $40,000 nationally in 2009, the BLS reports.
