Directory of Online Fashion Schools & Degrees
How many times have you watched Project Runway and thought: "I can do that. I can do that better."? Maybe it's time to visit a career in fashion. An online education can help you make it work, and make Tim Gunn proud. When you study fashion, you'll learn much more than how to design haute couture: you will likely learn about marketing, textiles, merchandising, and business.
As the world becomes a greener place to live, eco-friendly and "up-cycled" clothes and accessories offer a greener way to dress. The fashion industry is fast and fickle, providing a terrific environment for fast-paced creative thinkers who love a challenge and love to push the boundaries of trends. An online degree in fashion can help you channel your creative juices into forward-thinking designs, or how to recognize the next big thing in style. Online studies might include courses in graphic design, fashion styling, mathematics, photography, dressmaking, and footwear design. This directory can help you choose the online degree program tailor-made for your career dreams.
Once your online education is all sewn up, you might choose to work in fashion design, merchandising, marketing, PR, purchasing, or photography. Salaries vary widely, and though the market is competitive, it offers thrilling and glamorous opportunities. In May 2009, the U.S. Department of Labor reported that nearly 16,000 people worked as fashion designers, and earned a mean annual wage of approximately $74,000. These designers worked in a variety of industries, including apparel manufacturing, motion picture and television production, and performing arts.
