The Culinary School Directory

Directory of Culinary Schools & Programs

Unleash your inner culinary master, while building a promising career, with a degree from a top-ranked culinary school.

What's Life Like in the Culinary Field?

Have you ever dreamed about being an executive chef, a restaurant manager, a line cook, or owning your own catering company? Are you an aficionado of innovative savory cuisine, traditional dishes, baking, or delicate pastry arts? If any of these tickle your taste buds, consider a career in the culinary field. Culinary arts offer promising career opportunities in a variety of fields. Common sectors include: restaurants, travel and tourism, hospitality as well as recreation.

What Kind of Education Will I Receive at a Culinary School?

Curriculum at a culinary school is designed to coach you on the "ins-and-outs" of the cooking business. From the time-honored tradition of French cooking to the technical aspects of sanitation and safe food handling--along with everything in between--your studies at a culinary arts school are designed to give you a strong background in food fundamentals. Depending on your concentration of study, other common subjects include: extensive hands-on cooking courses, basics to help you understand the complex food world, liberal arts and culinary arts management classes as well as leadership courses to prepare students for food management positions.

What Type of Career Can I Expect with a Culinary Degree?

Simply put, the world is your oyster. Common employment opportunities with a culinary arts degree include: executive, personal and sous chefs, caterer, and restaurateur.

The culinary world is now regarded as a highly-skilled, multi-level, multi-billion dollar industry. In 2010, the restaurant industry alone was one of the nation's largest private sector employers, with about 12.7 million employees or 9 percent of the total U.S. workforce. The National Restaurant Association predicts that the restaurant industry will add 1.3 million employment opportunities in the 2010-2020 decade.
