The Architecture School Directory

Directory of Architecture Schools & Programs

Unleash your inner design potential, while building a promising career, with a degree from a top-ranked architecture school.

What's Life Like in the Field of Architecture?

Are you thoughtful, self-disciplined, curious, and well-rounded, with a penchant for design? If you answered "yes," it's time to consider a career in architecture. Architects design and plan buildings, along with other structures. In addition to making structures eye-appealing, architects ensure that they're functional, safe, economical, and suit the needs of the people who will use them.

Architecture Schools: What Courses to Expect

Curriculum at an architecture school is built on the premise of inspiring critical thinking, while teaching you the fundamentals of design and structure. Studies address a broad range of subjects, including: writing, graphics, design, and art history, mathematics and physics, computer programs and applications, structural systems, as well as building and material construction.

Your coursework and education can help you prepare a well-organized professional portfolio, a key ingredient to show prospective employers your potential and what you have to offer. In addition, your architecture school can assist you in preparing for one or more internships that could help to introduce you to the exciting career opportunities in architecture.

What Type of Career Can I Design with an Architecture Degree?

In architecture, you are the designer of your destiny. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the highest levels of employment for architects are in the general field of architects, engineers and related services, with over 88,000 employed. In May of 2009, the annual mean wage for a career in architecture was $78,660. As an industry, owning your own business is valued, with about 21 percent of all architects self-employed.
