Introduction to Protective Services Studies
We live in world that seems more dangerous than ever. Qualified protective services professionals with diplomas, certificates, and college degrees from schools and colleges are needed to staff the wide range of jobs in homeland security, law enforcement (Federal, state, community), and with local protection companies. The field is diverse. You may find yourself working as a private detective agency, as a dispatcher for police and fire, as a Federal officer guarding a U.S. border, or as a corrections officer in a jail or prison.
Protective Services Studies Programs
You'll find certificate, diploma, undergraduate, and post-graduate degree programs in criminal justice, law enforcement, and protective services at trade schools, colleges, and universities. A two-year degree program can launch your career, while a four-year bachelors program may qualify you for a higher earning position that carries greater responsibilities. A master's degree can prepare you for work in a Federal law enforcement agency or for management roles at state and local law enforcement agencies.
For example, schools currently offer studies leading to a career as a:
- Police officer or detective
- Correctional officer
- Federal government law enforcement employee
- Security guard or gaming surveillance officer
