Fashion Careers - Future Outlook

Do you want a career with constant challenge, unbelievable excitement, tremendous creativity, and an ever-present shot at overnight stardom? You should add fashion to your list of potential careers. Few jobs can offer you comparable perks and rewards.

Starting a career in fashion
Although fashion designers and runway models get the most press, there are many careers in the fashion world. Photographers, magazine reporters, seamstresses, and A/V technicians, all help bring fashion exhibitions together. If any of the above occupations interests you, then read on.

Hit the books. Study the basics.
The more one studies, the farther one goes. This is as true for fashion as it is for any other occupation. By going to school and mastering the basics, you develop a deeper understand of your particular craft. In fashion design school, for example, you will learn the importance of color coordination, material selection, character development, and even tangential areas such as lighting and marketing. These studies will prove invaluable once you get started. Fashion is one of the most competitive industries out there. You can become a success overnight, but you can also remain in obscurity forever. If you study in a formal setting first, the odds of success go up exponentially. This is true regardless of what occupation you pursue in the fashion world. Photographers for fashion magazines are just as competitive as the designers themselves.

Job outlook
People will always want to look good. This much was true before the MTV generation, but it is especially true now. Thus, fashion careers will flourish in the many years to come. Whether you work as a designer, model, or photographer, expect there to be plenty of work out there for you. Be prepared to travel however. In this particular industry, it's not uncommon to find yourself in random cities around the world. New York one minute; Tokyo the next.
